The Future of Fashion: Wearables, E-textiles and DIY
E-textiles and having electronics in your clothes might sound like science-fiction but is actually a fun and easy way to learn all about electricity and building sensors. E-textiles combine learning craft techniques (such as sewing, weaving, knitting and crocheting) with the added excitement of making a circuit work.

What will you learn?
In these introductory workshops, individuals will learn all about design thinking, rapid prototyping and soft circuits. These workshops will cover the basics of sewing with conductive thread, how to build your circuit, and sewing tools and techniques you can use to put everything together. Participants will also build off their new-found knowledge of soft circuits and start building interactive projects with soft sensors. Workshop participants will learn how to make soft sensors that can detect touch, stretch, and movement.

Class 1: Design Thinking for Wearables
In this class we’ll go over how to use design thinking to develop wearable concepts.

Class 2: Introduction to E-textiles
In this class we will go over the basics of how to make a circuit and how to sew with conductive thread.

Class 3: Interactive Sewing Accessories
Learn how to use everyday sewing accessories such as zippers, buttons, and clasps to turn interactive projects on and off.

Class 4+5: Soft Sensors
Learn how to use conductive threads and fibers to make sensors that detect touch, stretch, and movement.

Class 6: Arduino + Microcontrollers
Learn how to program your sensors to do what you want them to do.

Class 7 + 8: Work on your own project

The last two classes will be spent working on your own e-textile project with help from the instructor. This will be your chance to get creative and make the wearable garment of your dreams!
