EcoEquitable offers multiple programs that support the social and economic integration of people in need, especially immigrant women.  Our programs are designed to support individuals on their journey towards self- sufficiency and full integration into Canadian society.  Our goal is to deliver sewing training programs that motivate individuals to surpass the minimum income needed to cover life’s necessities, and provide them with the life tools they need to fulfill their dreams and ambitions.  Programs are offered at our location in Heartwood House, in a warm, welcoming and caring environment.
Currently EcoEquitable offers the following programs:

– “Sewing for Jobs” Beginner Level
– “Sewing for Jobs” Intermediate Level
– “Sewing for Jobs” Advanced Level / Home Décor
– Transition to Employment

The intention of the program to unearth participants’ hidden talents, grow the entrepreneurial spirit, as well as cultivate employment opportunities in the community.

Sewing for Jobs


“Sewing for Jobs” is an innovative sewing training program that is designed to be a bridge to financial autonomy for people in need, especially immigrant women, who have experienced barriers to joining the workforce for language, cultural or personal reasons. The goal of the project is to support individuals’ inclusion and integration into the labour market in order to reduce poverty, as well as promote self-sufficiency.

Transition to Employment


The Transition to Employment program is an unpaid coop program providing 3-6 months of personalized mentoring and training in industrial sewing production and fashion retail on site at EcoEquitable.  Training takes place either in our production workshop or in the EcoEquitable boutique.

Enabling Apparel Entrepreneurship


Enabling Apparel Entrepreneurship is a free program designed to support budding apparel entrepreneurs in Ottawa, particularly those facing barriers to setting up their own businesses.  EcoEquitable’s goal is to support women entrepreneurs in order that they can begin or grow their apparel businesses both physically and online.

Boutique Mentorship Program


EcoEquitable’s Boutique Mentorship is a free program designed to provide individuals, especially newcomers to Canada, with a tailored retail training experience. Retail volunteers will be matched with an experienced mentor who will provide one-on-one support, customer service knowledge and employability and essential skill development.
