Sampler quilts are history, economy and beauty all rolled into one. In making one we incorporate traditional quilt techniques and modern aesthetics while using up our stash of fabric scraps.
In this class, you will make a sampler quilt of 12 blocks. Each block is different and each provides a unique opportunity to learn a specific quilting skill.
YOU WILL LEARN:
Participants will learn how classic quilt blocks provide the building blocks for most quilts. The first workshop will cover all the planning required to start a sampler quilt project; thinking about size, design, colour, pattern, and layout. Participants will use fabrics available from their fabric stashes or purchase new fabrics and bring them to the next class.
Over those weeks, participants will make 12 different blocks and learn related cutting, piecing and pressing skills. Students will become familiar with classics like Log Cabin, Churn/Dash, Dutchman’s Puzzle, Wheel of Fortune, Wonky Star and Stack & Whack among others.
In the final class, the blocks will be assembled into a quilt and options for quilting and finishing will be discussed.
