Week One
Sewing Machine Basics
Sewing on scraps
Decide whether the class wishes to make pajama bottoms or a chef’s apron.
Week Two
Hand stitching
Sew on a button
Hem dress pants with and without a cuff
Week Three
Pattern – reading, symbols
Cut out pattern from tissue. (or perhaps trace from a master pattern)
Layout the material and pattern
Cut pattern/material
Sewing patches on Jeans (Time permitting)
Week Four
Different seam finishes
Make the pajama bottoms or chef’s apron
Week Five
Finish the sewing project
Week Six
Minor alterations

NOTE:
Students need a domestic sewing machine, iron, and basic sewing kit at home to practise and complete their garments.
PREREQUISITES: No sewing skills are necessary.
