#1Stitch1Step- How To Get Involved With Us This Ottawa Race Weekend
92 million tonnes of textiles end up in landfills each year and there is enough clothes to cover the next 6 generations of humanity! Meanwhile, in Canada alone, women still make only 89 cents for every dollar men make.
At EcoEquitable, we know that meaningful change starts with small, intentional actions - and that every stitch, like every step, can move us closer to a more sustainable and equitable future - where textiles are kept in circulation, where production and consumption find equilibrium, and where all genders receive fair pay.
This year, we're introducing our #1Stitch1Step Campaign as part of the 2025 Tamarack Ottawa Race Weekend to raise awareness of textile waste, gender inequity, and support our work in this field. Whether you're a runner, a sewist, or cheering from the sidelines, here's FOUR WAYS that you can get involved:
1. Sew or mend something from now until May 25th, and tag us in a picture of your creation along with the hashtag #1Stitch1Step. Every submission will be featured in our first ever DIGITAL QUILT!
*Need fabric? Come by our Eco Fabric Boutique anytime Monday-Friday from 10AM-2PM between May 1st - May 20th, mention DIGITAL QUILT, and receive 2 meters FREE of any bolted fabric in our big room! Happy sewing!!
2. Sign up and join our running/walking squad at the Tamarack Ottawa Race Weekend (May 24–25, 2025)
3. Share this post with a friend or family member to help spread the word!
4. Make a financial donation to our campaign in support of textile waste reduction & gender equity
With your help, we can inspire one another to sew and repair, raise awareness, and reach our goal to raise $7,000!
Thank you,
Team Eco
PS. Did you know we received over 13,000 pounds of donated textiles in 2024 alone? That's about 2,000 loads of laundry! Your donation will support us to redistribute perfectly usable textiles from landfills while empowering women towards economic independence through skills-building and community.
