2025 Ottawa Race Weekend RECAP!

We did it!

On May 24 & 25th, members of the EcoEquitable team including Nana, Carolina, Jess and Julia, participated in the annual Ottawa Race Weekend, running in events from the 5km, 10km, to the half marathon. Check out this excerpt from Nana Adu, our Communications Coordinator, as she recounts her experience:

"This Ottawa Race Weekend, on behalf and support of EcoEquitable, I completed the 5km race with a time that was better than my personal best during training. Amidst all the doubt and fear prior, as well as a dislocated knee cap (popped back into place literally 43 seconds before go time), I ended up crossing the finish line amongst other resolute runners.

However, running alongside determined people wasn’t the only thing that kept me going. There was also EcoEquitable and the knowledge that the women supported by their flagship program are just as driven to rise above their circumstances. They challenge themselves every single day, far beyond the 34 minutes it took me to run. If they can do hard things for the long haul, then I can too.

The organization is also a notable hub in the Ottawa-Gatineau region for recirculating 1000s of pounds of donated fabric and notions that would have otherwise ended up in landfills. With a growing interest in self-directed sewing and crafts amongst people, this place is truly a gem for beginners and pros alike.
