Sewing Machine Crash Course
Regular price $50.00Do you have a sewing machine sitting around at home that you don’t know how to use? Do you want to know how to use it? We are excited to finally offer a Sewing Machine Crash Course!
Bring it in your machine for this class and we will teach you how to use all the basic functions of your machine, common fixes and light repairs, as well as the basics of how to clean and oil your machine.
Materials you will need to bring with you:
-
Your machine! It must at the very least be able to turn on and sew a line. It doesn’t have to be a pretty line (we will learn how to do that in class!) but it must be in working condition.
-
Bobbins for your machine
-
Tiny screwdrivers for your machine (usually flatheads will do)
-
Sewing machine oil
-
Sewing machine needles
If you do not have these materials, some great local stores where you can buy these supplies are The Ottawa Sewing Center (most brands), Sewing Machine Hospital (most brands, and specifically vintage machines), Make Sew Create (specifically for Janome machines), Sew-Jo’s (specifically for Husqvarna machines), Quilty Pleasures (specifically for Pfaff machines), Mimi Fabrics (specifically for Babylock machines).
Fabric scraps will be provided.
All proceeds from EcoEquitable's public sewing and textile courses go towards our mission of empowering women with sewing skills and building connection and community; and supporting our local circular economy by redistributing fabric and sewing tools. We thank you for joining and supporting us!
COURSE DETAILS:
Dates: Sunday, October 20th from 11AM-3PM
Sunday, November 24th from 11AM-3PM
NOTE: Students who register for a public class will not receive a confirmation email from EcoEquitable. By registering, consider your class confirmed. We will only reach out to you if, under the rare circumstance, your class is cancelled or must be rescheduled.
About Your Instructor:
Coco: Hi there! My name is Coco and I immigrated to Canada when I was very young. While I was growing up, I didn't have anybody to teach me sewing, so I decided to just teach myself. Over the past three years, I have really dedicated myself to building on my previous skills and learning as much as I possibly can about sewing. My sewing journey has taken me into garment making, quilting, pattern-making, alterations, and much much more. I look forward to sharing my knowledge with you and helping you make the crazy (or boring) ideas in your head a reality and helping you to avoid some of the mistakes that I had to learn about the hard way. One fun little thing I like to say is that sewing is all about creatively stabbing the fabric in a way that achieves the functional and aesthetic goals of your project. See you in class!
