Board
Charlene Elgee - Board Secretary
Charlene is a transplanted New Brunswicker who has been an Ottawa resident for the past 45 years. After obtaining degrees in English literature and librarianship from the University of New Brunswick and the University of Western Ontario, she moved with her husband to Ottawa to work as a librarian, first with the Ottawa Public Library and then with the federal government.
A long hiatus from her career was dedicated to the raising of four children and to volunteer work with the Consumers Association of Canada, various parent advisory councils in Orleans schools, and the Friends of the Ottawa Public Library. She returned to the federal public service as a librarian with Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation and then with Citizenship and Immigration Canada. After retirement from CIC in 2012, Charlene wanted to return to volunteerism. She chose the Canadian Immigration Historical Society and EcoEquitable for this work. At EcoEquitable she had previously served as Volunteer Coordinator and a volunteer with the Friday morning drop-in program for several years before joining the Board in 2019. She is currently Board secretary for EcoEquitable.
