Elsie Dzau Chan - Board Treasurer
Elsie Dzau Chan was born in Shanghai, China, left as a toddler with her parents to Hong Kong in 1950 because of political upheavals in the Country and immigrated to Canada in 1968. She has since lived in Montreal, Yorkton, Saskatoon, Toronto and finally settled in Ottawa in 1978.
Elsie’s degree is in social work. For 40 years, she had worked in both government and non-profit social services organizations in the areas of child welfare, family protection, social assistance, community development and early childhood education. Her last job before retirement was 15 years as the Executive Director of Andrew Fleck Children’s Services in Ottawa. She has sat on numerous Boards including Home Child Care Association of Ontario, Southeast Ottawa Health and Community Centre, and others. She has accumulated extensive experiences in governance, administration, management, fundraising as well as dealing with different levels of government in accessing funding. In 2022, Elsie joined EcoEquitable’s board of directors and is currently Treasurer. Elsie was taught how to sew by her mother at the age of 12. She has shown a keen interest and worked on many projects until life got too busy with family and career.
