Graduate Sewists

Kafui, 2020 Graduate Sewist

Deka Trends, a brand dedicated to showcasing the richness of West African artistry through fashion, accessories, and mixed media art. She has a deep appreciation for cultural storytelling and loves incorporating traditional African prints into modern, wearable designs.

Favourite Memory at EcoEquitable:

Modelling her graduation garment during the graduation celebration. It was such a proud moment—seeing her hard work come to life and wearing something she had designed and sewn herself. It was symbolic of her growth in sewing as well as her progression of transforming her creativity into something tangible.

Favourite Sewing Projects:

She loves working on statement pieces, for instance: skirts and tunics that fuse traditional African prints with modern silhouettes. She also enjoys sewing accessories like handbags and unique jewelry pieces that highlight intricate patterns and textures.

Fun Fact:

She is drawn to mixed media art and is started exploring ways to combine fabric, paint, and texture into my designs. She loves experimenting with different materials to create unique, one-of-a-kind pieces that tell a story.
