Julia Hunter, Executive Director

Julia is a values-driven nonprofit leader who is passionate about organizational development, sustainability, and social impact. She obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Nutrition and Dietietics from Acadia University in Nova Scotia in 2015 and since then has worked across various nonprofit sectors including health promotion, affordable housing, food waste, and food security during her time living in Vancouver, British Columbia. Over the past 5 years, Julia has enjoyed the opportunity to develop and grow her leadership within the non-profit sector, as both an executive director and volunteer board member. She relocated to Ottawa in 2021.
Julia is drawn to EcoEquitable's twofold mission that intersects women's empowerment and environmentalism and is especially intrigued by the potential to develop innovative and meaningful ways of supporting women and advancing equity and inclusion. Being able to lead an organization into its next chapter is something that brings her great fulfillment, and she is forever grateful to the Eco community for their dedication, passion, and support (and for teaching her, slowly and patiently, how to sew).
In her spare time you would likely find Julia walking her rescue doggo Dutchy around the neighbourhood, running the trails, or reading and writing.
