Monique Dalkowski, Public Class Instructor
Monique was raised in a family of 11 children where creativity was a central part of daily life. Everyone in the family was very crafty, having inherited those talents from her mother’s side of the family.
She began learning how to sew in her early teens under her mother’s guidance. Alongside her sisters, she learned how to make her own clothes and quickly developed a passion for sewing. She appreciated both the creativity involved and the practical value of being able to create garments while saving money.
Monique continued to build her skills by taking sewing lessons in school and later enrolled in private home decor lessons with a seamstress who worked at a high-end home decor store in Orleans. Through this experience, she learned how to make curtains, valances, duet covers, pillow shams, cushion covers, and more. These skills allowed her to create custom decor for her own home, and she later worked part-time for the same home decor business.
Several years ago, Monique also took a course in upholstering antique chairs, where her sewing skills proved invaluable in completing those projects.
More recently, she has developed a strong interest in up-cycling different types of fabrics, including leather, to transform ideas into unique creations such as handbags and pillows. What she enjoys most sewing is that there is always more to learn, allowing ideas to be turned into beautiful, one-of-a-kind pieces. To her, the possibilities are endless!
