Saivani Sanassy, Summer Textile Assistant

Saivani Sanassy is a Mauritian-Canadian artist based in Ottawa who loves to explore natural and fantastical subjects through fibre, ceramics, and whatever she can get her hands on. Art has been an important part of their life since they can remember, it has been an expressive and therapeutic tool in understanding herself, her identity, and methods of pedagogy.

Saivani is also a Master’s student in the School of Canadian and Indigenous Studies at Carleton University, specializing in art revitalization and decolonizing museum and gallery spaces. Saivani’s academic and professional work is grounded in accessibility, and community-centered advocacy. Saivani aims to one day build a local art studio and workshop to host works of local artists and work towards cultural revitalization and decolonize western gallery spaces. She is currently achieving this through local art shows and coffeehouses that they host with friends and local organizations and hopes to build a physical space in the future.
