SOLD OUT! Thank you so much to our community for making our first pre-order batch a great success! Stay tuned for more.
Locally and equitably made. One-of-a-kind treasures. Sustainable fabric. Created by women.
Introducing our Pre-Order Project: The Everything Bag
Support Sewing for Jobs students in their final semester by pre-ordering a one-of-a-kind Everything Bag. Sewn at EcoEquitable with upcycled fabric sourced directly from our Eco Fabric Boutique, each bag tells a unique story.
Pre-orders we receive will be matched to a student and will provide them with an opportunity to complete their first paid sewing project before they graduate. A detailed description of the cost breakdown is available (left) in order to provide cost transparency, promote fair wages, and shed light on the true cost of sewing production.
We will have a limited quantity of this very first batch of pre-orders for our Everything Bag. All pre-orders will be available for purchase on our website. Pick-up at our shop only (no shipping available, yet!) at 404 McArthur Avenue, Ottawa.
The Details
The Everything Bag has 2 exterior pockets (one on either side), 2 interior pockets, and measures 15" L, 9" H, and 4.5" W. Each bag contains an EcoEquitable label sewn inside. With the look of a purse but the versatility of a tote bag, the Everything Bag is functional, durable, and... well... pretty darn cute!
FAQs
Q: Can I choose what fabric my bag is made from?
A: We want our community to experience the same joy we experience every day when fabric is donated to us. That is: it's unpredictable and a surprise! But it's always beautiful. Students will be hand selecting unique fabric to use for each bag, and no bag will be the same!
Q: When can I pick up my order?
A: This won't feel like your typical Amazon next-day-delivery-order. Once a bag is pre-ordered through our website, it will be matched with a student sewist, who will get to work on your bag. The finish date is approximately 3-4 weeks. Once it's ready for pick-up, you will be notified by email!
Q: How did you arrive at the final cost of the bag?
A: The purpose of the pre-order project is not to compete with mass production and fast fashion prices, that fuel overconsumption while [predominately] women textile workers receive unacceptable wages. The cost of the bag reflects the true cost of labour invested into making a quality product, with the proceeds going back directly into the pockets of local women we serve in our programs. The reality: sewing takes time, and women deserve to make a living wage for their time, skills, and expertise. When women are empowered to succeed, communities thrive. A full cost breakdown is available on the left (the last image in the carousel).
Q: It sold out before I could pre-order one! Will there be another opportunity?
A: Yes! This was our first pilot of the pre-order project, with plans to continue this initiative for future semesters of the Sewing for Jobs program. If it is a grand success, then there might even be a second batch coming even sooner! Stay tuned for future opportunities by subscribing to our newsletter!
